Betty Wilson Wallace Barnes

Betty Wilson Wallace Barnes, 82, of Athens, died Thursday morning, June 18, 2009.

A daughter of the late Jesse Riley and Amanda Farris Wilson, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Wallace Sr.; one son, John Thomas Wallace; one granddaughter, Emma Catherine Wallace; and two brothers, Arlan and Jack Wilson. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, and was retired from Thomas & Betts.

Survivors include her husband, Eugene Barnes; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Richard Taylor and Sandra Wallace of Tellico Plains, Tony and Froncine Wallace of Gadston, Ala., and Tim Wallace of Etowah; one sister, Nellie Mae Grosch of Knoxville; and eight grandchildren.

The family wishes to express a special thanks to Joyce Stewart for her tireless and compassionate care of Betty.

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Jerry Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Derek McCosh officiating. Burial will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Rudy Swafford, D.L. Brown, Curtis Vaughn, Donald Vaughn, Robert Farris and Jackie Davis.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
