Thomas Lee Elder

Thomas \"Tom\" Lee Elder, 83, of Athens, and formerly of Decatur, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 21, 2009, at his residence with his loving family at his side.

He was a member of Bethsadia Baptist Church, and was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He retired as district manager for Volunteer Energy Cooperative after 43 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Garland and Easter Denton Elder; his wife, Virginia Pirkle Elder; and one brother, Lawrence Elder.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanna and Jerry McKenzie of Decatur, and Debra and Bill Inman of Ten Mile; and nine grandchildren, Keith and Leslie Edgemon, Joshua Edgemon, Amanda and Brett Crawford, Jeff Inman, Tony Young and Tanya and Clay Moss.

Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Bowers Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe K. Miller officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Bethsadia Cemetery with military honors.

Pallbearers will be Earl Wright, A.J. Moses, Don Jarvis, Jerry Smith, Harry Smith and Lynn Colbaugh. Honorary pallbearers will be cousins and friends The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
