Martha Maxine Russell

A native and resident of Athens for most of her life, she was a daughter of the late Levi and Mary Orr Stephens. She was retired from Life Care Center of Athens, and was a member of Parkway Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Temer Russell, on March 5, 2004; five brothers, Brian Stephens, Leonard Stephens, Richard Stephens, Johnny Stephens and James Stephens; and one sister, Katherine Stephens.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Donna Russell of Athens; three daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and James King of Athens, Jane and Skip Lequire of Friendsville, and Jean and Carey Wilcox of Athens; one brother and sister-in-law, Avery and Daisey Stephens of Athens; four special caregivers: her special devoted brother, Avery Stephens; Paulette Perry, Priscilla Brock and Synthia Brock; special grandchildren, Jeff Russell and Krista Webb; and several other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Kincannon and the Rev. Scott Dawson officiating. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Johnny Brock, Hank Brock, Jerry Stevens, Allen Stephens, Mike McMinn and Keith McMinn. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Stephens and Jeff Russell.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
