James W. Martin, 72, of Menifee, Calif., and formerly of Etowah, died Sunday morning, June 28, 2009, in Menifee.

A son of the late Ogle and Tennie Martin, he was preceded in death by one nephew, Michael Stewart; and his first wife, Jeanne Martin.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Martin of Menifee, Calif.; three sons, Michael Martin, Derrick Martin and Robert Buell; two daughters, Alicia and Soledad Martin; a special grandson, Robert James; four sisters, Maxine Stewart, Judy Mangrum and Hilda Lawhorne, all of Etowah, and Joy Tilley of Utah; and a special friend, Dewey Starkey of Etowah.

Funeral services will be Thursday afternoon in California with full military honors. The body will then be cremated and the ashes scattered.

Evans Brown Mortuary in California is in charge of arrangements.
