J.B. Gibson, 76, of Decatur, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at his residence.

He was born in Meigs County, and retired from Vulcan Materials in Athens. He was preceded in death by his parents, Holt Gibson and Nona Jackson Gibson; three brothers, Henry Gibson, Clifford Gibson and Buddy Blevins; and one sister, Juanita Sewell.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, R. Mintie Gibson of Decatur; two sons, Johnny Gibson of Decatur, and J.D. Gibson, and fiancée, Shawna Brown, both of Cleveland; one daughter, Mary Jane Gibson of Decatur; one brother, Jr. Jackson of Decatur; three sisters, Patsy Crisp of Decatur, Janet Hampton of Johnson City, and Barbara Hughes of Riceville; two grandchildren, Jonathan Gibson and Brandi Gibson; and one great-grandson, Logan Gibson-McDowell.

Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Bowers Funeral Home with the Rev. Hugh Bryan officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday in Mt. View Memorial Gardens in Decatur.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
