Roy Thompson Jr.

He was born in Monroe County, and lived in McMinn County for many years before moving to the Knox-Loudon area. A son of the late Roy Thompson Sr. and Mary Woodby Thompson, he was preceded in death by one brother, Wayne Thompson; one brother-in-law, Carl McKheean; one nephew, Garry Knox; and one niece, Lecia Knox. He had worked for Mont-Vue Farms for 47 years and enjoyed being outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He was a NASCAR fan, and was a member of Union-McMinn Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Linda Joyce Russell Thompson of Lenoir City; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shannon and Jeff Millsaps and Heather and Keith Boggess, all of Athens; one son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Trina Thompson of Lenoir City; one stepson, Chris Hunt of Farragut; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Claude and Betty Thompson and John and Gloria Thompson, all of Athens; six sisters and three brothers-in-law, Earline McKheean, Shelby Knox, Lou Palmer, Kathy and Larry Morrow and Vickie and John Page, all of Athens, and Markie and Eddie Malone of Ten Mile; 12 grandchildren, Rylan, Raegan, Josiah, Elijah, John Keith, Dustin, Macy, Tyler, Gage, Jackson, Addison and Brileigh; two great-grandchildren, Kingston and Kalynn; and several nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to his good friends, Sam Hope, Don Sullivan and John and Gail Montgomery.
Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Bryan Coffey officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday in McMinn Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Ricky McKheean, Larry Knox, Dustin Palmer, Corey Page, Wesley Morrow, Marty Thompson, Mike Thompson, Felix Thompson, Harold Thompson, David Thompson and Jason Malone. Honorary pallbearers will be John Keith Schultz, Rylan Thompson, Raegan Thompson, Tyler Hickman, Josiah Thompson, Gage Boggess and Jackson Boggess.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
