Ollie Virginia Porter Collier, 84, of Athens, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, at a local nursing home.



She was a member of Cox Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, where she served on the missionary society, the pastor\'s wives, the lay council, Christian education and as a district officer for many years. She was well-known in the community as a child care provider to local families. She was the wife of the late Rev. Elbert Nathaniel Collier, and was also preceded in death by five sisters, Eva Keith, Patricia Arnold, Juanita Locke, Annette Porter and Dean Blair; and two brothers, Julius Porter and Clarence Porter.



Survivors include one brother, Glenn \"Brody\" Porter of Athens; two stepsons, Eugene Collier and his wife, Margaret, of Harriman, and Albert Alexander; special cousins, Kent King of Illinois, and Sherry Scruggs and her husband, Jackie, of Athens; a special niece, Rose Henry of Athens; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.



Funeral services were 1 p.m. Monday at Cox Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church with the Rev. Charlie Mack officiating. Burial followed in McMinn Memory Gardens.



The family received friends from noon to 1 p.m. Monday at the church.
