John R. Stokes, 69, of Decatur, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at Life Care of Collegedale.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alton and Nina Campbell Stokes; two sisters, Louise \"Midge\" Hill and Shirley Hale; and one nephew, Jeff Stokes.

Survivors include his ex-wife, Phyllis Stokes of Chattanooga; one son, John Michael Stokes of Jacksonville, Fla.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Teresa Stokes and Joy and Jamey McKenzie, all of Decatur; one brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Maxine Stokes of Decatur; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Virginia Johnson of Jonesboro, Ga., Lou and Jesse York of Morristown, Sammie and Joe Womac of Riceville, and Donna and David Sneed of Decatur; and three grandchildren, Corey Stokes, Nina Stokes and Breanna Stokes.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Bowers Funeral Home with Pastor Jamey Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Decatur Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Travis Sneed, Bobby Stokes, Kenny Fairbanks, Stanley Welch, Jerry Shoemaker, David Bates, Ricky Bates and Kalvin Hale.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
