Ralph Lafayette Blankenship, 85, of Englewood, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at Woods Memorial Hospital.



A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Anderson and Bertha Watkins Blankenship, and was preceded in death by three sisters, Eva Lou Blankenship, Anna B. Gunter and Virginia Witte; three grandchildren, Brandon Blankenship, LaBron Duckett and Rachel Duckett; and one son-in-law, Curtis Duckett. He was a member of New Zion Baptist Church and was retired from Athens Stove Works.



Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Angelee Watson Blankenship; three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Robyn Blankenship of Athens, Steve and Lisa Blankenship of Maryville, and Pat Blankenship of Englewood; two daughters and one son-in-law, Connie and Eldon Everhart and Hazel Duckett, all of Delano; one sister, Alene Matthews of Athens; nine grandchildren and spouses, Karen Pritchett, Gary and Nancy Everhart, Sarah Sprague, David Blankenship, Amber and Travis Torbett, Chris Blankenship, Carla Blankenship, Candice Varela and Cody Robinson; and nine great-grandchildren.



The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Etowah Health Care, who were so nice and caring, Dr. Sharpe and Woods Memorial Hospital.



Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Kincannon and the Rev. Travis Torbett officiating. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at New Zion Cemetery.



Active pallbearers will be David Gunter, L.C. Bull and grandsons.



The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
