LaVerne Emert Dooley, 93, of Athens, died Sunday night, Nov. 18, 2012, at Morning Pointe of Athens.
A native of Blount County, she was a daughter of the late Clyde B. and Myrle Montgomery Emert and was also preceded in death by her husband, Leslie W. Dooley, on July 21, 1994; and one sister, Jean Emert Lea.
She was a member of St. Paul\'s Episcopal Church, where she served on the Altar Guild for 50 years. She was a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Gail D. and Judge William Tindall Howell of Walterboro, S.C.; one son, Thomas W. Dooley of Athens; one granddaughter, Leslie Howell Pryor and her husband, Greg, of Walterboro, S.C.; two grandsons, William T. Howell Jr. and his wife, Emelia, of Ft. Mill, S.C., and John Asher Howell and his wife, Lori, of Beaufort, S.C.; eight great-grandchildren; and one step-grandson, Charles Carr and his wife, Sandra, of Athens.
The family wishes to thank the Morning Pointe Staff, caregivers and Amedisys Hospice for their kindness and care of LaVerne.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul\'s Episcopal Church with Father Hendree Harrison officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be family.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Friday at the church.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Paul\'s Episcopal Church, 123 S. Jackson St., Athens, TN 37303; or to the McMinn Regional Humane Society, 219 Alford St., Athens, TN 37303.
