Ruth Elizabeth Cartwright Showman, 88, of Athens, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
A native of Limestone, a former resident of Kingston and a resident of Athens for the past year, she was a daughter of the late Louis H. and Nellie Smith Cartwright, and was preceded in death by her husband, Robert \"Bob\" Showman; four brothers, Syrl Cartwright, Thomas Cartwright, Byrl Cartwright and John Cartwright; and two sisters, Mary Edith Broyles and Christine Carver. She was very caring, loving and ready to help people in any way and, most of all, loved the Lord. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Kingston and was an active member and former president of The Crewettes of the Roane County Rescue Squad.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Tom Dill of Englewood; one grandson, Aaron Dill of Birmingham, Ala.; one brother, Louis H. Cartwright Jr. of Knoxville; one sister, Lois Lee of Texas; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Campbell of Kingsport; special friends, Phil and Lisha Harvey of Kingston; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Friday at Calvary Baptist Church in Kingston with the Rev. Ray Bearden, the Rev. Jeff Plemons and Dr. Jason Clark officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Kingston memorial Gardens in Kingston.
Active pallbearers will be Richard Tapp, Bobby Harrell, Walter Arms, Dennis Fairchild, Mark Barber, Gene Adams, Mike Morgan and Clint Boyer.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home, and from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Calvary Baptist Church in Kingston.
