Carl Edward Sands Sr., 61, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 25, 2012.
He was born in Knoxville but was a resident of Decatur for 15 years. He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church in Knoxville, and was a U.S. Army veteran with the rank of staff sergeant. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Cornelia Sands; one brother, David Sands; and one sister, Carol Jean Collier.
Survivors include his loving wife of 39 years, Delores Morgan Sands of Decatur; three sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Cindy Sands of Athens, Carl and Candy Lynn Sands of Nashville, and Brian and Jody Sands of Decatur; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Leo Anderson of Knoxville, and Donald Ray and Tammy Sands of Knoxville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathy and Lonnie Coppock and Dorothy and John Stabler, all of Madisonville; 13 beautiful grandchildren; and many friends.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Faith Baptist Church on Highway 58 in Decatur, conducted by his eldest son, Tommy Sands.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers a donation for the family can be made at the service.
