Darlene Cassandra Versa, 54, a longtime resident of Athens, died on Thursday evening, Jan. 3, 2013, at her home in Knoxville.
She was a member of Overcoming Faith Christian Center (OFCC) in Athens, where she was active in the choir. She graduated from McMinn County High School and also attended Tuskegee University in Alabama. She was also an avid reader and caretaker for her late mother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Sarah Versa; her brother, Michael Versa; and her aunt, Lucille Love.
Survivors include her son, Robert Dushawn Versa of Knoxville; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert Lawrence and Gloria Versa of Cleveland; one nephew and his wife, Jubreel and Pasha Versa of Athens; two nieces, Natosha Versa and Shuderra Versa, both of Cleveland; two great-nephews, Quinton and Miles Versa of Athens; a close cousin, Maxine Bean of Detroit, Mich.; cousins, Evelyn Banks, Mary John Thompson and Helen Colwell; close friends, Terri Cage, Linda Scott, Jacqueline Smith, Regina Smith, Teresa Jackson, Helen McMahon, Ernestine Ervin, Beverly Campbell and Alice Gibbs; and a host of many more friends.
A Celebration of Life service will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Overcoming Faith Christian Center in Athens with Pastor Dr. Harold McCowan officiating.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church.
M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home of Athens is in charge of arrangements.
