Earl \"Buck\" White, 78, of Riceville, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
A native of Athens and former resident of Boynton Beach, Fla., for many years before returning to Athens 15 years ago, he was a son of the late William Earl and Mae McGaha White. He was the eldest of 10 children and was preceded in death by a daughter, Earlena Mae; four sisters, Florence Alice Cannon, June Rue, Oneida Malone and Lilly \"Tinker\" Rogers; and one brother, Jack White.
He was a life member of the VFW, past member of B.P.O.E., a member of the American Legion, and also the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 3733 and Am Vets of Etowah. He was an avid animal lover and avid blood donor, having received the \"2 gallon chip\" for his donations. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Phyllis Boyd White; four sons and one daughter-in-law, David Watson of Boynton Beach, Fla., James Paul White of Rockwood, Douglas Mac White of Englewood and Earl B. White II and his wife, Wendy, of Boynton Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren, Keri Lynn White, Jennifer Satterfield and her husband, Kent, Robin King, James White and Jacquline White; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Jim and Bobbie White of Athens, Bill and Wanda White of Athens, Clyde White of Athens and Claude \"Topper\" and Mary White of Madisonville; and his best friend, his dog \"Biggun.\"
Graveside services with military honors will be 11 a.m. Friday in Sullins Cemetery with the Rev. Kent Satterfield officiating.
Pallbearers will be Jeff White, Jim Bull II, Will Cannon II, Will Cannon III, Drew Eaton and Andrew Gay.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
