Ella Josephine Skinner Higdon, 77, of Athens, died Friday morning, Feb. 22, 2013, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
A native of Blount County and a lifelong resident of Athens, she was the daughter of the late William Brady and Nellie Newberry Skinner, and was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Dexter Higdon; and one sister, Alice Faye Richardson. She was a member of South Holston Church in Lenoir City.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Raymond Carmley of Chatsworth, Ga.; one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Gail Higdon of Athens; four grandchildren, Lisa and Chris Million, Jason Burchfield and John Higdon; four great-grandchildren, Brandon Swafford, Blake Wright, Brance Nichols and Joshua Burchfield; one great-great-grandchild, Devon Swafford; one brother and sister-in-law, William and Gwen Skinner of Lenoir City; a special friend, Brenda Hester; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy Hogan officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in McMinn Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Mike Higdon, Brandon Swafford, Randy Burchfield, John Higdon, Raymond Carmley and Chris Million.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
