Billy Gene Hedden, 80, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at his home in Athens. He was surrounded by his loving family.
He was born and raised in the Greasy Creek community in Polk County and moved to Athens after retirement, with many years of service with Wright Brothers Construction Company. He received an honorable discharge from the National Guard.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Robert Brian Hedden and Billy Darrell \"Butch\" Hedden; seven siblings; and his parents, Walter \"Buck\" Hedden and Carrie Hedden Wilcox.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Nancy Jane Wilcox Hedden; three daughters and sons-in-law, Debra Darlene and Rex Rymer of Waverly, Genean and Tommy Wright of Cleveland, and Melanie and Gary Kirby of Athens; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mary Ann Guest of Cleveland, Juanita Garrett and Geneva and Robert Frank, all of Reliance, and Loranza and Ray Frank of Benton; six brothers and five sisters-in-law, Frankie and Robbie Wilcox, Lloyd and Ruby Wilcox and Roy and Shirley Wilcox, all of Reliance, Melvin and Laura Mae Wilcox of Tellico Plains, Frankie Ray Hedden and his wife of Resaca, Ga., and Eddie Wilcox of Benton; grandchildren, Brian Rymer, Gene Rymer, Dan Rymer, Melissa Locke-Kaylor, Christopher Headrick, Brandy Payne, Johnny Wright, Kim Saylor, Steve Wright, Samantha Kirby, Shelby Kirby, Brian Simms and Heidi Chapple; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many friends.
Visitation was held at Clear Springs Baptist Church from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Kenneth Elkins officiated and Melissa Locke-Kaylor presented the eulogy.
Burial was held at Clear Springs Baptist Church cemetery after a 1 p.m. service on Monday at the church.
Grandsons and nephews served as pallbearers.
Ziegler Funeral Home of Athens was in charge of arrangements.
