Rev. Howard J. White Sr., 66, of Niota, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at his residence.
A native of Monroe County, and a lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Joseph Roscoe and Mamie Lee Latham White. He was preceded in death by William Charles White and Billy Joe White.
He had pastored Rogers Creek Baptist Church, Concord Baptist Church and Woodland Acres Baptist Church and was interim pastor of Union McMinn Baptist Church. He served three tours in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam Conflict.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Rickie Marie Noble White of Niota; one daughter, Susan White of Niota; two sons, Howard \"Howie\" White Jr. and Scott and Sondra White, all of Niota; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas Bruce and Jane White of Niota, and Issac Henry and Carolyn White of Loudon; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Union McMinn Baptist Church with Howie White and the Rev. Doug Alexander officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday in Union McMinn Cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church.
