Beatrice Walker \"Granny Bea\" Stansberry, 88, a lifelong resident of Charleston, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday morning, Feb. 26, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on Sept. 16, 1924, a daughter of the late Perry and Callie Walker. She was very devoted to her church and taking care of her family whom she loved dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, George A. Harris and William L. Stansberry; two daughters, Mary Jane \"Janie\" Stansberry and Nita Ruth Stansberry; and several siblings.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory eight daughters, Brenda Barnett and her husband, Stanley, of Old Fort, Wanda Schultz and her husband, George, of Charleston, Wilma Shelton and her husband, Roy, of Calhoun, Linda Watson and her husband, Gary Bishop, of Charleston, Jeanette Shope and her husband, Chris, of Charleston, Carolyn Williams and her husband, Mitchell, of Coolidge, Ga., Cathy Marr and her husband, Danny, of Cleveland, and Genia Stokes of Charleston; three sons, Jerry Harris and his wife, Carolyn, of Decatur, and Gary Harris and his wife, Connie, and Terry Stansberry and his wife, Melody, all of Greer, S.C.; 23 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandsons; two brothers, J.D. Walker and his wife, Wilma, of Langston, Ala., and Frank Walker and his wife, Cherie, of California; and numerous other extended family members and friends.
A celebration of her life will be 2 p.m. Friday at Bellefounte Baptist Church, located at 132 Bellefounte Road NE in Cleveland, with the Rev. Grady Simpson and the Rev. Kenneth Stansberry officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Harris, Gary Harris, Terry Stansberry, Stan Barnett, Steven Dockery and Jamey Stansberry. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons.
The family will receive friends at the church from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and also from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday.
