Leatrice Denene Jackson McDermott, 48, of Etowah, died on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at her residence.



She confessed her faith in the hands of the Lord at an early age. She was a member of Athens Church of Christ and was a 1983 graduate of McMinn Central High School. She was employed at Etowah Health Care Center until her illness prevented her from working.



She was preceded in death by her husband, George McDermott; her father, Lonnie \"L.J.\" Jackson; one sister, Eva Jarrett Bazel; and one nephew, Ronald Bazel Jr.



She was survived by her mother, Floria Lee Jarrett Jackson, but three days after she joined \"Trice\" in God\'s Heavenly home.



Survivors include her great-nephew and adopted son, Isaiah Parris; one brother, Avery Jackson of Etowah; one sister and brother-in-law, Zennetta and Arnold Boyd of New York; one aunt and her spouse, Lorine and J.D. Goins of Harriman; three uncles and two spouses, French and Betty Jarrett and Michael Williams, all of Etowah, and Buford and Ernestine Jackson of Athens; one niece and her husband, Chauntaine and Tim White of Athens; one nephew and his wife, Sam and Alisha Bazel of Athens; a special friend, Tabitha Siklosi; four stepchildren and one spouse, Valerie and Wayne Morris, Connie McDermott, Alvin McDermott and Dale McDermott; 15 step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; her caregiver and special friend, Janet; and a great host of many relatives and special friends.



Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Caggie Scruggs officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Etowah.



The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.



M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home of Athens is in charge of arrangements.
