Francis Gettys Watkins Sr., 83, of Sewanee, died in his sleep on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, of complications from acute myeloid leukemia.
He was born and raised in Athens, and graduated from The University of the South and Yale University.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Ann Patton Watkins, of Lookout Mountain, Ga.
Survivors include one daughter, Anna S. Watkins of Decatur, Ga., and her children, Vladimir and Vlada; his son, Frank Watkins Jr. and his wife, Ann, of Chattanooga, and their sons, Patton and Evan; his son, Patton Watkins and his wife, Hunt Oliver, of Sewanee, and their children, Camas, Cullen and Ada; and a large extended family.
He wished to be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father and friend.
A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Otey Parrish in Sewanee with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sewanee Senior Citizens Center, 5 Ball Park Road, Sewanee, TN 37375.
