Janie Christine Johnson, 86, of Athens, passed away on Wednesday March 13, 2013, at a Knoxville hospital.
She was a member of Church of God Sanctified, and the daughter of the late John and Lastie Winton. She was also preceded in death by one son, Ralph Winton Jr.; one daughter, Geneva Kimpson; three brothers, John \"Ben\" Winton, Hillary Winton and Eugene Winton; four sisters, Mandy Winton, Louise Clark, Mary Helen Robinson and Betty Jean Arnwine; her husband, Everette Johnson; and special friend, Eli Neal.
Survivors include one daughter, Mattie Sue Craig of Athens; three granddaughters and one spouse, Melinda Kimpson, Sabrina Kimpson and Kelly and Morrow Mack, all of Athens; five grandsons and three spouses, Kevin Winton of Athens, Trae and Sharon Kimpson of Athens, Benji Kimpson of Calhoun, Joddie and Patty Kimpson of Charleston, and Greg and Shila Kimpson of Cleveland; one brother, Thomas Lee Winton of Athens; one daughter-in-law, Phyllis Winton of Athens; three sisters-in-law, Delores Johnson, Glenna Billups and Mary Winton, all of Athens; two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law, Ray and Jackie Johnson of Athens, and Charles Johnson of Athens; 24 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Leuty McDermott officiating. Burial will follow at Hammonds Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service, from noon until 1 p.m., at the funeral home.вац
