Mary Elizabeth \"Bill\" Newman Armstrong French, 93, of Englewood, died Friday evening, March 15, 2013, at NHC Health Care of Athens.
A lifelong resident of McMinn County, she was a daughter of the late Orville and Mary Christy Newman, and was also preceded in death by her first husband, Olen E. Armstrong; her second husband, Charles A. French; one son, David Armstrong; one sister, Edna Hicks; and one brother, James Newman.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Englewood. She owned and managed various real estate properties in McMinn County and also owned Armstrong IGA in Englewood.
Survivors include two granddaughters, Cheryl Armstrong and her husband, Barry Kellam, of High Point, N.C., and Blythe Armstrong and Ron Thomas of Englewood; one daughter-in-law, Nita W. Armstrong of Englewood; one great-granddaughter, Bailey Thomas; one great-grandson, Garrett Maxwell; one sister, Eva Gross of Huntingdon Woods, Mich.; one sister-in-law, Bette Newman of Chattanooga; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at McMinn Memory Gardens with the Rev. Russ Maples officiating.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
