Mary Sue Ghorley, 87, of Athens, died Thursday afternoon, April 11, 2013, at her home.
A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Georgia Ingram Moore, and was preceded in death by her husband, Efton Ghorley; one son, Steve Ghorley; three brothers, Everett Thomas Moore, Lawrence Clifford Moore and George Joseph Moore; and two sisters, Huldah Elizabeth Moore Ghorley and Maggie Lee Moore Powers.
She was an active member of Union Hill Baptist Church, as long as her health permitted. In her early years, she worked as a beautician at the Robert E. Lee Beauty Shop, Chilhowee Beauty Shop and Edith\'s Beauty Shop. She then became a housewife devoting her time to her family.
In her spare time, she enjoyed watching game shows, working crossword puzzles, and also loved playing Rook and board games with her family and friends.
Survivors include one son and two daughters-in-law, Don and Linda Ghorley and Betty Ghorley, all of Athens; one grandson, Chris Ghorley and his wife, Misty, of Englewood; five granddaughters, Crystal Kerr and her husband, David, and Camissa Kerr and her husband, John, all of Wake Forest, N.C., and Susannah Rogers and her husband, Chris, Stefanie Ghorley and Jade Ghorley, all of Athens; and 10 great-grandchildren, Baily Kerr, Maddie Kerr, William Kerr, Felix Kerr, Sam Kerr, Levi Ghorley, Ruthie Rogers, Lizzie Ghorley, Noelle Sisson and Hunter Sisson.
Funeral services were 8 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Johnson officiating. Burial was 2 p.m. Sunday in McMinn Memory Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
The family received friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
