David Lee McKee, 66, of Athens, died Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at Woods Memorial Hospital.
A native and lifelong resident of Athens, he was a son of the late Blaine and Bennie Dixon McKee and was preceded in death by his brother, Charles McKee. He was Veteran of the U.S. Navy for four years, and was stationed in South Carolina and Spain. He was very involved in sports, especially Little League Baseball of Riceville, where he served as a coach and umpire. He also developed and had overseen the P.T.O. Basketball League in Riceville.
He retired from Mayfield Dairy after 41 years, having started on the loading dock, then working as a routeman, and retiring as Branch Manager. He was a member of Eastanallee Baptist Church, serving as deacon and a Sunday school teacher, as well as being involved in local missions.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Brenda Turner McKee, of Athens; his two sons, Travis McKee, of Kingsport, and Heath McKee and his wife, Becky Holbrook McKee, of Etowah; four grandchildren, Brycen McKee, Brogen McKee, Lyla Beth McKee, and Blaine McKee; one special aunt, Martha McKee; one sister-in-law, Pat Skebo, of Athens; two nieces and their spouses, Debbie Surratt and her husband, Mike, of Mississippi, and Sherri Ferguson and her husband, Carl, of Georgia; and one great niece, Andrea Strickland and her son, Weylin, of Athens.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with funeral services to follow at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Oran Creasman officiating.
Graveside services with military honors will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Eastanallee Baptist Cemetery with the Rev. Oran Creasman officiating.
Pallbearers will be Carl Ferguson, Bob Housley, Rodney Price, Robbie Roberts, Tommy Leach and Craig Benton. Honorary pallbearers will be the Eastanallee Senior Adult Men\'s Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Eastanallee Baptist Church Senior Adult Men\'s Sunday School Class, P.O. Box 3148, Riceville, TN 37370-3148 for their local mission projects.
