Mary Lynn Guffey, 56, of Maryville, and a longtime resident of Athens, passed away with her family at her side on Thursday night, June 6, 2013, at East Tennessee Health Care in Madisonville.
A daughter of the late Ralph Eugene and Jimmie Lou Peck Guffey, she was associated with Douglas Cooperative of Maryville and lived in Maryville Group Home for the past few years.
She was a member of North Athens Baptist Church and was active in Special Olympics, both in Athens and Maryville.
Survivors include one sister, Geneva Guffey of Delano; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Gene Guffey and his wife, Susie, of Athens, and Samson Guffey of Knoxville; a special friend who was like a sister, Julie Harris; three nephews, Michael Guffey and his wife, Timberly, of Athens, Brian Guffey and his wife, Janet, of Riceville, and Tony Guffey of Athens; one niece, Maria Gennoe and her husband, Stacey, of Decatur; three great-nephews, Joshua Guffey, Samuel Guffey and Derek Gennoe; and three great-nieces, Piper Guffey, Rachel Guffey and Leighann Gennoe.
Funeral services were 7 p.m. Sunday at Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene Guffey officiating. Burial was 2 p.m. Monday in Sunrise Cemetery in Englewood.
Pallbearers were Brian Guffey, Mike Osborne, Tony Guffey, Derek Gennoe, Stacey Gennoe and Joshua Guffey. Bill Holcomb served as an honorary pallbearer.
The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
