Magalene \"Maggie\" Bell Pannell, 77, of Etowah, died Monday, July 1, 2013, at Life Care Center of Athens.
She was born in Yadkin County, N.C. on Nov. 25, 1935, to the late George Chester Bell and Cordelia Milner Poindexter. She graduated from George Wythe High School in Wytheville, Va. in 1953 and had been a resident of McMinn County for the past 40 years. She had been a homemaker and an active member of the United Methodist Women.
She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Edward, Charles, Thomas and Barry Bell.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Clayton Pannell of Etowah; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Teresa Pannell of Jacksonville, Fla., and Otis and Teresa Pannell of Athens; five grandchildren, Megan and Aaron, both of Jacksonville, Fla., and George, Cady and Mathew, all of Athens; brothers and sisters and their spouses, J.C. and Betty Bell, David and Tammy Bell, Gary and Sandy Bell, Linda and Murchison Usher, Donna Bell and Jim Harrell, Kenny Bell and Danny Bell, all of Rose Hill, N.C., Dorothy and Malvern Wallis of Mondamin, Iowa, George Bell of the Philippines, Burton and Ya Bell of Omaha, Neb., Ronald and Laurie Bell of Mondamin, Iowa, and Robin Bell of Castle Hayne, N.C.; and one aunt, Ruth Lovette of Magnolia, N.C.
Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Friday in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Pastor Aaron Pierce of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home and will proceed to Green Hill Cemetery for the 11 a.m. burial.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
