Franklin D. \"Dude\" Frye, 65, of Athens, passed away Thursday morning, Oct. 17, 2013, at his residence.
A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Fred and Elizabeth Kelley Frye, and was also preceded in death by a sister, Frances Elizabeth Frye Swafford.
He was a member of Georgia Masonic Lodge 397 in Rossville, Ga., and the local Order of the Eastern Star 159. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam Era and was part of the Tet Offensive. He was a member of the Boilermaker-Welder Local 454.
Survivors include one daughter, Victoria Morgan of Newport; one son, Franklin Frye II of Farragut; two grandchildren, Brock Morgan and Grace Morgan, both of Newport; three brothers, Freddie Frye of Jesup, Ga., Farrell Frye and his wife, Liz, of Athens, and Floyd Frye of Athens; and one sister, Freda Mann of Knoxville.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
