Richard Steven \"Rick\" Wattenbarger, 64, of Athens, passed away on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at his residence.
A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Bruce and Nellie Rose Price Wattenbarger. He was preceded in death by a brother; Roy Lee Wattenbarger; and a grandson, Alex Wattenbarger.
He was a retired truck driver with Case Enterprises.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Sarah Lucinda Riggs Wattenbarger of Athens; two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Karriann Wattenbarger, and Richie and Deb Wattenbarger, all of Niota; one daughter, Alisha Marie Wattenbarger and her fiancé, Justin Thomas, of Madisonville; one stepson and his wife, David and Jan Palmer of Harriman; two stepdaughters, Mary Lou Palmer of Athens, and Melinda Thomas and her husband, Jeff, of Tellico Plains; sisters-in-law, Kaye Wattenbarger of Athens, Betsy Stephens, Elizabeth and husband, Junior Runyon, and Janetta Moore; brother-in-law, Lawrence Riggs; 12 grandchildren, David \"PeeWee\" Thomas, Patricia Todd, Ashley Todd, James Todd, Shala Palmer, Shyanne Wattenbarger, Jeremy Wattenbarger, Cody Wattenbarger, Jonathan Wattenbarger, Brittany Wattenbarger, Michael Vance, and Beth Shipp; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. James Morgan officiating. Interment followed in Christianburg Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Keith Wattenbarger, Parker Thomas, Benny Bryant, Junior Runyon, Ricky Gossett, Travis Moses, Joe Chrisman and Mickey Phillips.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
