PUBLIC NOTICE
The purpose of this notice is to make you aware of the McMinn County School System's responsibility for providing equitable special education and related services to parentally-placed private school children with disabilities, including those schooled at home. McMinn County Schools receives funds through the Individuals with Disabilities Act and American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. A proportionate amount of these Federal funds are to be expended by the Local Education Agency (LEA) for such children located in their district.
The McMinn County School System makes a concerted effort to locate and identify all children ages 3-21 which may need special education and related services. This is accomplished through notices in the Daily Post Athenian, Comcast Cable Channel 95, brochures distributed through the Health Department, doctor's offices etc. The McMinn County School System will accept all referrals to determine eligibility for special education services for children suspected of having disabilities who attend private school or are home-schooled.
On August 31st, 2010 an informational program will be held in the auditorium at McMinn County High School. The program will begin at 6:00 p.m. and last approximately 1 hour. If you would be interested in learning more about services that may be available to your parentally-placed or home-schooled children, ages 3 through 21 years, who are suspected of having a disability, please make plans to attend.
